Welcome to the Swedish School in Portugal!
The Swedish School in Carcavelos is situated in a peaceful residential area close to Avenida Marginal, the road that runs along the coast between Lisbon and Cascais.
The school is located in a large villa with swimming pool and ample space for play and recreation. On the grounds there is a playhouse as well a swing and a sandbox. Behind the school there is an additional large space used for various sports. The beach is only five minutes away and can thus serve as another area for outdoor activities.
The Swedish School is owned by the parents association and is run by a board that manages the school´s finances, personnel issues and other issues related to the day-to-day running of the school.
The school is open to children from two years old until sixth grade (normally twelve years old). Long distance learning is also offered to children who do not wish to continue in national or international schools after the 6th grade.
The school opens at 8.30 am with classes being held from 9 am-3 pm.
After school activities are offered every day from 3-5 pm.
The Swedish School has very low fees compared to other private schools thanks to state subsidies from Sweden, Finland and Norway.
The fee includes all textbooks and school materials, lunch and two snacks, insurance, outings and field trips as well as yearly medical and dental check-ups.
The teaching at the Swedish School is age-integrated. Thanks to small classes each student is offered individualised teaching by highly qualified and experienced staff.
The six-years-olds spend the morning in the primary school (lågstadiet) and the afternoon in the pre-school where they have an opportunity for play and outdoor activities.
English and Portuguese are included in the curricuclum in grades 1-6 and there is also an option for the pre-school children to recive instuctions in Portugues if so desired.
Swedish classes for Swedish children attending international or Portuguese schools
are offered during the late afternoon on Wednesdays.
Native language classes for Norwegian, Finnish and Danish children can be provided upon request.
